Pun Chun Restaurant was founded in 1937 by Khong Yuen Chew, who arrived in the Malay States during the Victorian era. The business began humbly as a wonton noodle pushcart, where Khong introduced classic Cantonese wonton noodles and his signature Cantonese duck soup (Ngap Tui Mein) to the local community.
Khong was also the inventor of our famous Chicken Biscuit and Shat Kek Ma. Inspired by a traditional Chinese biscuit, the Chicken Biscuit — or ‘Kai Chai Peng’ (Little Chick Biscuit) — was enhanced to suit local Malaysian tastes. It became so popular that the name and recipe even spread back to Hong Kong and China.
Strategically located along the main trunk road, the restaurant quickly became a popular stopover for travelers, and soon, Pun Chun became an icon of Bidor.
Now, more than 75 years and several generations later, Pun Chun remains a cherished destination for hearty, authentic meals — proudly preserving a unique part of Malaysia’s culinary and travel heritage.
